iCAN UCAN - Promoting positive attitudes to Education, Training & Employment
On Wednesday 23rd February, 75 care leavers and leaving care workers came together at the University of Salford to take part in an event called ‘iCAN UCAN’ which aimed at giving young people from a care background the confidence and skills to start planning their own career choices. Many of our students at Salford who have been in care helped out at the event and we thank you for all your energy and support of the event. You know who you are!
The event was part of the From Care2Work project, a national project aimed at raising awareness of careers and employability opportunities for care leavers. The day was hosted by Jennifer Mitchell, Trainee Young People’s Co-ordinator from NCAS. After the Vice Chancellor, Professor Hall, opened proceedings, Richard McCann began the morning with an inspirational presentation on his personal journey and the ‘I Can’ attitude that kept him going in difficult times. The afternoon was an opportunity to gather information and inspire young people to think about H.E, apprenticeships, building employability skills, enterprise skills, career planning and more.
