The University has been awarded the Buttle UK Quality Mark for support for care leavers!
At the beginning of February 2011 the University was awarded the Buttle UK Quality Mark for Care Leavers in Higher Education
Buttle UK (formerly the Frank Buttle Trust) is the largest UK charity providing grant aid to individual children and young people in need including grants for care leavers in higher education. As part of their work they also promote good practice within UK Universities by offering a quality mark in which universities have to show a commitment, endorsed by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, to supporting care leavers both by raising aspirations of young people and by offering excellent support whilst studying.
The University has been offering support to students from a care background for a number of years now. The news that this support has been rewarded by gaining the Buttle UK Quality Award is fantastic news for the University and we look forward to improving our services to students from a care background.
If you have any ideas on what we can do better or want to find out a bit more about the support we offer care leavers please contact the Care Leaver Co-ordinator, Dalia Jaffar at StudentLife-Careleaver@salford.ac.uk or Arron Pile, Project Co-ordinator at a.pile@salford.ac.uk or by phone at 0161 295 2152
