What is the Access to Learning Fund?
The Government provides the University of Salford with money known as the Access to Learning Fund (ALF) to help you if you need extra financial support either because:
- you have higher than average costs, or
- you face unexpected financial problems during your course
You may be able to get help from ALF for:
- course-related costs, such as childcare and travel to university
- general living costs, such as rent
- emergency costs if your Student Maintenance Loan is delayed
You will not normally get help from ALF for:
- payment of tuition fees (unless you qualify for the Additional Fee Support Scheme for part-time undergraduates)
- payment of specialist course-related equipment or field trips
- repayment of outstanding non-priority debts, such as credit cards or bank overdrafts
Most of the awards from ALF are grants which do not have to be repaid, but some emergency funding is in the form of short-term loans which have to be repaid when you receive your Student Maintenance Loan.
If you have applied for your Student Finance England maintenance funding, but have not recieved it yet, you may be able to apply for a small emergency loan from the Access to Learning Fund. Please follow this link for further information- Emergency Loans
