Student Life  Advice & Support

Before Starting

Very soon after you have completed your application form, you will receive a welcome letter from the Student Life Team inviting you to contact us to arrange a meeting with the Care Leaver Co-ordinator. Of course you do not need to take this up but it would help us if you told us that you don’t need our help. If, later on, you change your mind, we can arrange a meeting then!

Below is a list of the support we may be able to offer you. If there is something else you need, please just ask and we will try to accommodate it.

  • A meeting with a dedicated Care Leaver Co-ordinator, even before you have applied if necessary - to listen to you and your personal situation
  • Advice on what can seem like endless form filling!
  • Are you choosing the right course for you? We can help you in making the best choice for you
  • Regular contact with the Co-ordinator, at intervals that suit you
  • Make sure you have an accommodation contract that suits your needs. This could include a 52 week a year contract for the duration of your course
  • Help in paying your travel expenses if you need to come to the University before your course: for an interview, open days etc
  • Work with your local authority care leaver, if you agree, to provide the best possible service to you
  • Help in finding child care if needed
  • We will send you details of events and workshops and any new initiatives that may be of interest to you
