If You Have Problems Paying Your Tuition Fees
If you fail to maintain your method of payment for your tuition fees, the University will start the “cancellation of registration” procedure. This will happen if a Direct Debit or recurring card payment is not honoured, or a manual instalment is not made on the agreed date.
We will do everything we can within the University's guidelines to help you correct the problem, and make your payments, but if you don’t deal with the problem, your registration will be cancelled and you will no longer be able to attend the University or gain access to the facilities.
If you think you may have a problem paying your tuition fees it is really important that you speak to someone as early as possible. The sooner the University knows there is a problem the sooner the staff who are trained to help and advise you can do this.
The income section in the finance department should be your first point of call if you have a problem. They can be contacted on 0161 2954671, income-finance@salford.ac.uk or by going to the counter on the second floor in Faraday House.
Student Life has trained finance advisers and can be contacted on 0161 2950023 or advice@salford.ac.uk or by going to the Student Life Advice Desks across campus.
This is the “cancellation of registration” procedure:
We will send a letter to your term time address advising you of the non-payment and requesting your attention to the matter.
If you do not respond to this letter within the time given we will send you another letter asking you to deal with the matter urgently.
If you still fail to respond, we will send you a third letter advising you that the remaining fees for the year must be paid immediately and in full or your candidature will be cancelled.
If you still don’t respond, we will send you a final letter from the Student Administration Office confirming your cancellation from the course.
If you still do not make arrangements to pay we will send you a further letter advising that unless you respond within the time given your file will be passed to a debt collection agency and the cost of this will be passed on to yourself.
If you allow this to happen, you will then be chased by the debt collect agency and this may ultimately result in legal action being taken against you.
We will also contact you through your University email and the telephone numbers you have provided when registering or updating on the My Student Info website. Your School will be told of your situation and they may also attempt to contact you to make sure that you are aware the seriousness of the situation.
It is very important that you keep the University up to date with any changes of address or other personal details to ensure that the correspondence is being addressed correctly. Please visit www.mystudentinfo.salford.ac.uk to do so.
Remember, if you allow your registration to be cancelled:
- You will no longer be able to attend the University.
- You will no longer have student status.
- Your Library access will be denied.
- Your access to Blackboard, will be denied.
- Your ID card and log on will be disabled.
- We will not provide any official documents confirming your status. i.e. Council Tax forms, student visa letters.
For international students, this may affect your stay in the United Kingdom as you will no longer be complying with the conditions of your visa. The University is required to report back to the United Kingdom Borders Agency any visa holders who are no longer studying with the University. This means that the UKBA may withdraw your study visa and request your removal from the United Kingdom.
If you pay your fees after you have had your candidature cancelled you will be required to complete a reinstatement form, which must be signed by your Programme Leader to ensure that academically you are able to be reinstated back onto your course.
Please note that once a student registration has been cancelled following this procedure it can only be reinstated once the remaining fees owed have been paid in full.
Remember, the University may be able to assist you if you are suffering severe financial hardship as a result of a significant and unexpected event that could not have been predicted by the student in their financial planning. If you are in financial hardship and you would like to talk to an adviser, contact Student Life on 0161 295 0023 or by email to advice@salford.ac.uk.
