We need your help!
A recent initiative called Salford C.A.N (Community Action Network) has been created by partner organisations in Salford to raise the aspirations of, and improve rates of care leavers (those that have left local authority care – either foster care or a residential unit) entering education and employment. At the moment only about 6% of young people who have been in care make it to University, as opposed to over 40% of the general population. We don’t think this is right and we want to change it.
The partners in Salford CAN include:
• Salford City Council
• Salford University
• Key local employers
• Salford City College
• Job Centre Plus
• NHS
• National Apprenticeship Service
We are asking all our students who have been in care to help us decide how we can best improve educational aspirations and employability of all care leavers in Salford by filling out a very short survey. This is a chance for you to have your say!
They survey can be downloaded HERE.
The survey is due to close on 3rd February 2012, and we need as many completed questionnaires by that date, so act now and click on the above link!
We have enlisted the help of students who are care leavers to make this survey as accessible as possible. The Salford CAN project is even chaired by a student of the university who is from a care background. If you would like to get involved in Salford CAN (we are always looking for young people who have been in care to get involved!), please email us – we would love to hear from you!
Any questions about the survey can be directed to Arron Pile at A.Pile@salford.ac.uk or 0161 295 2152.
