Launch of NorthCLASS Collation Document of H.E Support
NorthCLASS, a forum for staff in Higher Education in the North of England that provide outreach programmes and support to care leavers, have been compiling an important document. This follows the successful launch of a similar document in the Midlands.
This document details over 30 institutions in the North of England that provide H.E courses (i.e. Universities and Colleges). It lists the individual support for LAYP and care leavers that each institution offers and provides a generic summary of financial support available. The document will be updated and distributed three or four times a year to ensure that it is up to date. The next edition is planned for November. It is aimed at both care leavers themselves and any staff that provide guidance to LAYP or care leavers in terms of choosing an institution. It is hoped that it will make comparisons of support available easy.
Distribution of this document has already started, to all local authorities across the country, national organisations and charities that have a remit for care leavers. However, it is important that the document reaches all people who deal with care leavers, from strategic level to people who work at ground level with care leavers across the country. Therefore, please do distribute the document as you see fit; in online forums and websites aimed at care leavers and to staff at your local authority that work with care leavers – key workers, social workers, leaving care teams and the many others that provide support.
If you would like to receive future updates of the document, please email your name, job title and e-mail address to a.pile@salford.ac.uk.
