Primary Schools
Most primary schools have a nursery class which children attend on a part-time basis from the age of three. There is no charge for this, but there may be a waiting list. Children over two-and-a-half years old may be able to attend a play group on a part time basis.

International Students - If you expect to be in the UK for at least 12 months, and have children aged between five and 16 years old, the law says they must be receiving full-time education. They have the right to attend a state school in the UK, free of charge. Contact the Education Department of your local Council (see number above) for information about schools, the compulsory school age in your area, and if you have problems finding a school place.
Childcare Costs
If you are a student with children, you may be eligible for additional support to help you cover child care and other living costs.
Salford City Council offer a Starting Life Well Service for students who have children. They will support you with searching for childcare and financial support. Please contact them and they will help you in anyway that they can.
