Student Life  Advice & Support

Other Sources of Funding

Not all students are eligible for the government student finance package. If you are on a postgraduate course, have been to University before or are an International student you will need to find other sources of funding. If you are on a nursing or social work course you might need to apply to the NHS for your funding instead.

Postgraduate funding

If you are on a postgraduate course or have already completed an undergraduate course your funding options are:

  • Support from a research council or charitable organisation
  • Sponsorship from your workplace
  • A studentship from your University
  • A career development loan or MBA loan
  • Government funding for teacher training and certain medical and social work courses.

Funding for postgraduate study is limited and competition can be fierce. Give yourself plenty of time to research and apply for your funding, as closing dates are often long before your course begins. Find out more on the government postgraduate funding website

International students

The University has a range of scholarships for International students. Use our International scholarship finder to find out what you are eligible for.

NHS funding

If you are on a healthcare or social work course you may receive support from the NHS. Healthcare students can receive a bursary for living costs and will have their fees paid by the NHS. Social work students receive a bursary for living costs and can apply for a student finance tuition fee loan. Any funding you receive from the NHS does not need to be paid back if you complete your course. Visit the NHS student grants website for more information.
