Salford Bursaries - 2011/12 Starters

The University has a range of bursaries for UK and EU undergraduate students. These are paid on top of your student loan and government grants.

The University of Salford bursaries (except the Advantage bursary - see below) are assessed automatically on your student finance form, so there is no need to apply separately. Simply make sure you give consent for the University to see your details.

  • The Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship
£1000 in your first year for new students starting in 2011, if you receive AAB or equivalent.

  • The Salford Community Bursary
    £500 each year if you are living in Salford three months before you apply to university. (postcodes M3, M5, M6, M7, M50, M30, M44, M27, M28, M38)

  • The Salford Subject Bursary
£500 each year if you take an eligible course in Modern Languages.

  • The Global Placement Bursary
£500 for one semester or £1000 for two semesters spent working or studying abroad full time as part of a formal exchange or placement. Please note, EU students will not receive a bursary for time spent in their home country.

If you are eligible for more than one bursary you will be paid a combination of up to £1000. Payment is subject to eligibility.

The following two bursaries are different, because they can be paid in addition to the ones above. So even if you are eligible for a bursary in the list above, you will get this extra money on top

  • The Salford University Bursary
£338 each year for new students starting in 2011 who receive the full Higher Education Maintenance Grant. £384 each year for returning students who started in 2008, 2009 or 2010.
  • The Salford Advantage Bursary
£1000 in your first year if you are from Greater Manchester, receive the Higher Education Maintenance Grant and are the first in your family to go to University. (This is the one bursary that you need to apply for. For further information please click here).

The bursaries and scholarships listed on this page are for the academic year 2011/2012. Follow this link for more information on the bursaries for students starting courses in 2010/11.
